Career progression during a global pandemic

Published: 15 October 2020

We are delighted to welcome Naomi Bond to Alexander & Co Solicitors.

Naomi has joined the Family team at our Derby office and can advise on a wide range of family matters including divorce proceedings, financial matters, pre and post nuptial agreements, and private children matters.

We have asked Naomi to share about her experience of starting a new job during a global pandemic.

"It is natural to be nervous when starting a new job, especially during a global pandemic!  Just a few short weeks ago, I started my new role as a Family Solicitor at Alexander & Co.

I have been working from home for the past six months.  Let's just say, I can definitely resonate with those who are working from home for the very first time and absolutely hate it.  I really missed the hustle and bustle that comes with working in an office environment and being able to see clients.  Despite this, I was still slightly apprehensive about adjusting to working back in an office environment.  My nerves soon disappeared though after being made to feel so welcome by the whole team at Alexander & Co.  I was even given a goodie bag upon arrival!

I was also understandably concerned about working back in an office environment during a global pandemic.  However, Alexander & Co have taken every step possible to make sure both their employees and clients are safe.  Most recently, all the team have been given a Bold Beanies ECO washable face mask to protect each other and our clients when we are in the office.  I am so grateful to work at a firm who have been so proactive when responding to the safety challenges that inevitably flow from COVID-19.  Alexander & Co have made the safety of both their employees and clients a top priority.

The last month has flown by so fast, and I have already learnt so much.  I have adapted to new ways of doing things, such as virtual court hearings and using the new online divorce service.  I have also had to think creatively about how to continue to provide excellent client service during a global pandemic.  The last month has been a huge learning curve, and it could easily have become quite overwhelming had it not been for the support of such an experienced and welcoming team.

After joining Alexander & Co only a few short weeks ago, it is easy to see why the firm has such an excellent reputation.  I look forward to contributing towards the continued success of the firm."
